Oregon State and Iowa Battle to 6-6 Tie in Series Finale
DES MOINES, Iowa – In a dramatic conclusion to their three-game series on Sunday at Principal Park, Oregon State and Iowa finished in a 6-6 deadlock after 10 innings, necessitated by Oregon State’s travel curfew.
The game commenced with Iowa establishing a 3-0 lead over the Beavers in the first two innings. However, the momentum shifted in the sixth when Oregon State’s Gavin Turley walked with the bases loaded, followed by a grand slam from Wilson Weber that propelled the Beavers into a 5-3 lead.
Iowa responded, scoring a single run in the sixth and tying the contest in the eighth with a well-executed squeeze play. The teams entered the 10th inning knotted at five runs apiece. Oregon State edged ahead when Dawson Santana was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. But Iowa retaliated shortly after, with Jaixon Frost connecting for a solo homer that equalized the score.
On the mound, Oregon State’s Ethan Kleinschmit pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three runs—two of which were earned—while striking out seven batters. Iowa’s starter, Ben DeTaeye, held the Beavers to two runs over five innings, showcasing impressive strikeout ability with seven to his name, although he did not allow a hit.
Looking ahead, Oregon State is set to return home for a midweek matchup against Portland on Tuesday at Goss Stadium, with the game scheduled for 5:35 p.m. PT. Fans can catch the action on Portland’s CW and various streaming platforms.
