Oregon State Beavers Clinch Series with 5-1 Win Over Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa – The No. 10 Oregon State Beavers secured a commanding 5-1 victory against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, clinching the weekend series. Starters Dax Whitney and Nelson Keljo combined for an impressive 16 strikeouts, stifling Iowa’s offense throughout the game.
Whitney showcased his skills on the mound, pitching six innings while striking out 11 batters and allowing just three hits and one run. This performance improved his season record to 4-3. Keljo followed, entering as a reliever in the seventh inning and striking out the side, finishing with three scoreless innings and earning his first save of the season.
Oregon State (37-12) made strategic use of its six hits against three Iowa pitchers. Aiva Arquette opened the scoring in the third inning with his 17th home run of the season, tying him with Adley Rutschman and Jacob Melton for fifth place in OSU’s all-time single-season record. Canon Reeder later added a two-run double, contributing to the Beavers’ four-run third. Iowa managed to score in the sixth, but Oregon State responded with another run in the seventh inning on a double play off Wilson Weber’s bat.
The victory dealt Iowa starter Aaron Savary his first loss of the season, dropping his record to 7-1. Looking ahead, Oregon State and Iowa will conclude their three-game series with a matchup scheduled for 10:02 a.m. PT on Sunday.
