Oregon Vintage Base Ball Team Shifts Game Location Due to Renovations
OREGON — Fans eager to catch the Ganymedes Vintage Base Ball Team in action this Sunday, May 18, must head to Oregon Park West, as their traditional home field at Iron Chest Field faces temporary closure due to construction. The Oregon Park District has initiated renovations at Oregon Park East, where a new playground and walking trails are set to debut, leading to fences being erected around the area.
“We will likely be unable to play at Oregon Park East for the rest of the summer,” stated Ganymedes captain, Mark Herman. The team has secured an alternative venue for their matchup against the Lemont Quarrymen this Sunday, set for 1 p.m. at Oregon Park West, located at 1402 Koontz Place. The picturesque setting features a large grassy field complemented by scenic hills, with home plate strategically positioned off the walking path.
“Expect a fun experience as both teams play under the 1858 rules of base ball," Herman added, highlighting the unique atmosphere. The Ganymedes, recognized for wearing authentic wool uniforms and adhering to vintage gameplay, aims to educate and entertain audiences about America’s historic pastime through their programming since 2005. Entrance to the games remains free.
Looking ahead, the Ganymedes have several exciting matches lined up throughout the summer. For further details on the team’s schedule and updates, visit their Facebook page.
As renovations progress at Oregon Park East, the Ganymedes look forward to a triumphant return next year to their cherished field adjacent to the historic Chana School Museum.
