U.S. Air Force F-35 Demo Team Takes Flight at Oregon International Air Show
PORTLAND, Ore. — The 2025 Oregon International Air Show is set to soar this weekend at Hillsboro Municipal Airport, running from Friday through Sunday. A standout highlight will be the U.S. Air Force F-35 Lightning II Demo Team, showcasing its impressive aerial capabilities. Major Melanie Kluesner, the team’s pilot, describes flying the F-35 as akin to "driving a roller coaster with a lot of power."
This year’s event promises an enhanced fireworks display on Friday night, featuring a captivating combination of aerobatics, music, and synchronized drones. Gates will open at 6 p.m. Friday, with entertainment kicking off at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday will have gates opening at 9 a.m. and the first air show performances commencing at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
In addition to the F-35, the program will celebrate military aviation history with a USAF Heritage Flight and includes performances by the Patriots Jet Team. Kluesner, who joined the demo team a decade ago, expressed her excitement and passion for flying. She recalls her inspiration stemming from witnessing jets at an Air Force Academy football game at just six years old.
“The tactical pitch is my favorite maneuver, making the jet appear as if it’s gliding on a skateboard through the sky," she noted. Kluesner emphasized the importance of inspiring the next generation of aviators. "It’s emotional and gives you goosebumps. I hope to ignite a dream in kids, just as I was inspired."
Fans can expect an exhilarating show filled with breathtaking maneuvers and sounds that resonate throughout Hillsboro, as the F-35 lightning takes center stage this weekend.
