PORTLAND, Ore. — In a proactive measure to combat the growing threat of human-caused wildfires, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has instituted fire restrictions effective Thursday across all public lands in Washington and Oregon. Under the new regulations, several activities are strictly prohibited, including the use of exploding targets, metallic targets, and ammunition containing steel components, as well as incendiary devices, tracer ammunition, sky lanterns, and fireworks. "The number of human-caused fires has only increased over the years," stated Jeff Fedrizzi, Fire Management Officer for BLM Oregon and Washington.
Violators of these fire restrictions face serious legal repercussions, with potential imprisonment for up to 12 months or hefty fines that can reach $100,000. Additionally, individuals found responsible for sparking wildfires may be liable for costs associated with fire suppression efforts.
