Oregon Voters Head to the Polls for School Board Elections and Funding Measures
As election day approaches on Tuesday, voters across Oregon have the chance to influence their local school boards and weigh in on significant financial initiatives. Notably, Multnomah County residents can vote on a substantial $1.83 billion bond proposed by Portland Public Schools aimed at modernizing campus facilities. Additionally, voters in the Mt. Hood Community College district are being presented with only the third construction bond in the institution’s nearly 60-year history.
With over 3.1 million mail ballots dispatched three weeks ago, Oregonians are reminded of their voting responsibilities. Ballots must be returned to certified dropboxes by 8 p.m. on Tuesday or postmarked by that date. However, participation has been lukewarm; as of Friday, only 10% of voters in Multnomah and Clackamas counties had cast their ballots, while Washington County reported a slightly higher turnout of 13%.
The Oregonian/OregonLive has been actively covering the various school board races and financial measures impacting the Portland area, ensuring that voters are informed before they make their crucial decisions.
As we approach the final hours of voting, it’s clear that every ballot matters. Citizens are encouraged to engage in the democratic process and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future of education in their communities.
