While no confirmed immigration arrests have been reported at Oregon courthouses since the Trump administration took office, state officials are keen to ensure compliance with Oregon’s laws, which generally prohibit cooperation with immigration enforcement.
The Oregon Judicial Department is currently examining guidance options, although no decisions have been finalized, according to spokesperson Todd Sprague. He emphasized the importance of an independent judiciary free from intimidation, crucial to upholding justice.

Meanwhile, Multnomah County Circuit Court’s Presiding Judge Judith Matarazzo stated that while there have been no reported incidents, she remains committed to upholding safety in the courthouse environment.
The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office reiterated its policy of not enforcing federal immigration laws, emphasizing the importance of community trust and safety. With ongoing uncertainty due to the political climate, Oregon courts continue to seek guidance on navigating the complex intersection of state and federal laws regarding immigration enforcement.
