Oregon Ducks Softball Advances to Women’s College World Series
EUGENE, OR – The Oregon Ducks softball team is poised to make history as they prepare for the 2025 Women’s College World Series (WCWS), marking their first appearance since 2018. After a decisive victory over Liberty in the Super Regionals, the Ducks now face a challenging bracket that includes powerhouses UCLA, Texas Tech, and Ole Miss.
Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi, who previously celebrated a national championship with Oklahoma in 2017, brings invaluable experience to the squad. This will be her inaugural attempt to guide Oregon in the WCWS, a significant milestone for both her and the team, especially given the roster’s relative inexperience on such a prominent stage.
"A solid performance from our team is crucial," Lombardi remarked as they gear up for their opener against UCLA on Thursday. Oregon’s junior pitcher, Lyndsey Grein, emerges as a key player, boasting a remarkable 29-2 record this season. Grein’s previous success against UCLA will be vital, as she delivered two wins during a recent series against them, showcasing her capabilities on the mound.
The Ducks demonstrated their offensive strength throughout their season, outscoring opponents 42-13 during the regional hosted at Jane Sanders Stadium, including a commanding 16-3 in the Super Regional. However, they will face the formidable challenge of facing elite pitchers like Texas Tech’s NiJaree Canady, known for her striking abilities.
As the Ducks kick off their WCWS campaign, the blend of Lombardi’s experience and Grein’s talent will be crucial in navigating one of the toughest brackets, potentially leading them to their first national championship in program history.
