BYU football celebrates a significant recruitment win as Alai Kalaniuvalu, a four-star offensive line prospect, has officially committed to the Cougars for the class of 2025. This announcement came on May 27, delighting fans and the coaching staff alike.
Kalaniuvalu, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 311 pounds, was previously a BYU commit before signing with the Oregon Ducks during the Early Signing Period last December. His return to BYU marks a pivotal moment, as he is considered one of the top interior offensive linemen in the nation, recently ranked as the 109th best recruit overall and the sixth-best in his position for the incoming class.
The talented recruit hails from Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, after starting his prep career at Timpview High School in Provo, Utah. BYU had extended an offer to Kalaniuvalu before his sophomore season in 2022, positioning themselves as a strong contender in his recruitment.
Impressively, Kalaniuvalu chose BYU over a host of other prestigious programs, including Oregon, Nebraska, USC, Utah, and Michigan, to name a few. His extensive offers also included powerhouse teams such as Alabama, Florida, and Ohio State, showcasing his high demand in the recruitment landscape.
In addition to his athletic prowess, Kalaniuvalu has strong football lineage; his father was a third-round NFL draft pick in 1994 for the Atlanta Falcons after playing at Oregon State. This signing not only strengthens BYU’s offensive line for the future but adds significant momentum as the team prepares to compete at a higher level in the Big 12 Conference.
