Major Drug Bust in Oregon: Largest Seizure in Multnomah County History
OREGON, USA — In a groundbreaking operation, the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office announced the largest drug seizure in its history, arresting Estacada resident Anthony Barrera for allegedly transporting a staggering 270 pounds of methamphetamine from Southern California to Oregon.
Barrera, 29, faces severe federal charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine. He made his initial appearance in federal court and has been ordered detained as the case unfolds.
According to court documents, Barrera rented a vehicle and journeyed to California to procure the illicit drugs for sale in Oregon. On May 24, law enforcement observed Barrera driving his rental car along Interstate 5 in Cottage Grove, subsequently tracking him to a rest stop near Roseburg. After apprehending him, FBI agents executed a federal search warrant, revealing the drugs hidden in the backseat and cargo area of the vehicle. The total amount collected was reported to be 278.3 pounds of meth and two pounds of cocaine.
Investigators later executed a search of Barrera’s home, where they discovered two firearms concealed under the floor of a closet.
This case is currently under investigation by a joint task force, including the FBI and the Multnomah County Dangerous Drug Team, which is made up of personnel from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, Parole and Probation, Gresham Police Department, and U.S. Marshals Service.
Officials emphasize the importance of tackling drug trafficking and view this significant seizure as a victory in the fight against drug distribution in the region.
