Stillborn Infant Discovered in Laundry Shipment from Dallas to Shreveport

Authorities are investigating a disturbing incident involving an embalmed infant discovered in a shipment of linens at a Shreveport dry cleaner. On Tuesday night, employees at Alsco Uniforms reported finding what appeared to be a mummified infant, prompting a response from Shreveport police. Officers noted the scene was unsettling, and the infant showed signs of early decomposition, indicative of embalming. The linens were traced back to Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas, where the child had been scheduled for cremation after dying on May 3.

Investigations revealed that the body, which was found wearing clothing marked with the initials “K.M.,” should have been cremated following a funeral service on May 17, but instead, it ended up in a load of laundry sent to Louisiana. While police have ruled out foul play, they suspect negligence on the part of either the funeral home or a cleaning service.

Cpl. Chris Bordelon, a representative for the Shreveport police, emphasized the unusual nature of the case, noting the strong smell of formaldehyde typically absent from crime scenes. The remains are now with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, which is working to return the infant to the family in Dallas. The Texas Funeral Service Commission has been notified, as there are specific laws governing the handling and disposal of human remains. This incident raises serious questions about operational protocols in funeral services and the safeguarding of deceased individuals. Bordelon expressed sympathy, stating, “This is an unfortunate set of circumstances that no family should have to go through.”
