Oregon Insider: Key Changes in State Government
Published: October 24, 2024
In a significant shift within Oregon’s state administration, Ashley Carson Cottingham is set to depart her role as deputy director of the Office of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman to lead the Center for Hope and Safety in Salem. This nonprofit, previously managed by Jayne Downing, provides crucial services such as a hotline and housing for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Leslie Sutton, who has held key positions at the Oregon Council on Developmental Disabilities, is transitioning to become the residential facilities ombudsman within Cottingham’s former agency. Additionally, Rep. Shannon Jones Isadore, D-Portland, took her oath of office on Thursday, with Gov. Tina Kotek officiating at the historic McMenamins Blue Moon Tavern. Her swearing-in honors the legacy of Andrew and Sarah Johnston, early Black homeowners in Portland, during a time rife with racial limitations.
Brig. Gen. Jenifer Pardy of the Oregon National Guard received the 2024 Alumni Award of Excellence from Western Oregon University, honoring her leadership and achievements within the Guard. Meanwhile, Ryan Vogt, currently the executive director at the Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments, will expand his role to lead the Community Services Consortium starting November 1.
In December, Andrea Williams will take over as president of the Oregon Food Bank, becoming the first woman of color to lead the organization since its inception 43 years ago. Williams has served as vice president for the past three years.
Lastly, in media shifts, Anastasia Mason joins the Salem Statesman Journal as a state government reporter, focusing on the executive branch, while Dianne Lugo continues her coverage of the Legislature and equity issues. These changes reflect ongoing developments in Oregon’s governmental landscape.
