The Phoenix Suns are trading 15-time All-Star Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets, as confirmed by multiple reports. The Suns will receive Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in the upcoming draft, and several future picks in the deal. Durant had an impressive season with the Suns, averaging 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. Over his 18-year career, he has averaged 27.2 points per game, ranking sixth in NBA history.
The Rockets, who finished the last regular season with a 52-30 record, secured the second seed in the Western Conference but were eliminated in the first round by the Warriors. This trade marks Durant’s fifth team, following a journey that began when he was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics as the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft after a year at Texas.
Durant led the Oklahoma City Thunder to an NBA Finals appearance in 2012 before joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016, where he won back-to-back championships and earned Finals MVP honors. After a season-ending Achilles injury during the 2019 Finals, he signed with the Brooklyn Nets, where he led the team to two playoff appearances. In February 2023, after a challenging stint with the Nets, he was traded to the Suns.
Despite solid individual performances, Durant’s time in Phoenix was disappointing, with the team failing to progress past the second round of the playoffs in 2023 and missing the playoffs altogether in 2024. As he approaches 37, Durant is entering the final year of a $54.7 million contract and will be eligible for a two-year, $122 million extension on July 6.
