Richard Wesley Commits to Texas, Strengthening Longhorns’ 2026 Recruiting Class

Austin, TX – In a significant boost to their 2026 recruiting efforts, the University of Texas has secured a commitment from elite EDGE prospect Richard Wesley. Ranked as the 24th overall player nationally by On3, Wesley chose Texas over formidable competitors, including USC, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and Oregon, where he was briefly committed.

Wesley, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive standout from California, made waves in the recruiting world earlier this spring when he reclassified from the Class of 2027 to 2026. He boasts an impressive high school performance, recording 44 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and nine sacks during the 2024 season. His addition solidifies his status as one of the top four EDGE prospects in the country.

His recent official visit to Texas proved pivotal, allowing the coaching staff, led by Steve Sarkisian, to ultimately secure Wesley’s commitment. He is the 15th pledge in a recruiting class currently ranked 10th nationally, helping elevate Texas four spots in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Wesley joins five-star quarterback Dia Bell, who has been a steadfast member of the Texas class and was recently named MVP at the Elite 11 Finals.

The Longhorns’ recruiting strategy has seen success with seven other high-profile commitments, including four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart and three promising defensive linemen. With such a solid foundation in this recruiting cycle, Texas is positioning itself as a powerhouse for the future.
