Oregon Ducks Women’s Soccer Prepares for Season Opener with Renewed Confidence
EUGENE, Ore. — As the Oregon women’s soccer team gears up for its season opener on Thursday, August 14, the Ducks are energized and ready to set a new standard at Pape Field. Following a solid 0-0 draw against Idaho in an exhibition match, Head Coach Tracy Joyner noted a significant shift in the team’s attitude, emphasizing increased confidence and competitiveness.
"The second half of the exhibition was a testament to what we can achieve when we implement our strategies effectively," Joyner stated. "We’re focused on improving each day in training and the players rose to the challenge before the season begins.”
In preparation for the game, the Ducks experienced a particularly intense training session that helped bolster their confidence. Forward Sydney Chura, who is entering her first season at the Division I level after a successful run at the NAIA, expressed optimism about her transition: "I know my level, and I’m here to contribute positively to the team."
With a strong emphasis on protecting their home field, Joyner stressed the importance of Pape Field as a fortress for the Ducks. "This is our field, and it must be where we perform our best all season," she said.
Team captain Taylor Bryan also reinforced this message, highlighting the team’s desire to showcase their growth. “We’re not the same Oregon as last year. It’s going to be tough for opponents to score on us, especially at home," she added.
The Ducks hope to kickstart their season on a high note against Weber State at 6:30 p.m. as they aim for an undefeated home record and a new era of success.
