Dollywood Foundation Launches Statewide Imagination Library in Oregon
EUGENE, OR – The Dollywood Foundation has announced the leadership team for the statewide expansion of the Imagination Library in Oregon, aiming to enhance early literacy for children across the state. Laurie McNichols has been named the State Director, while Kaylee Chrystal steps in as Community Engagement Coordinator. Both began their roles in August, working in collaboration with the Department of Early Learning and Care (DELC) to broaden the program’s outreach.
"This is an exciting milestone for Oregon," stated DELC Director Alyssa Chatterjee. "The leadership team will be crucial in delivering books to children’s homes, helping to foster early literacy and a love of reading."
McNichols, formerly an area director for the literacy nonprofit SMART Reading, possesses 14 years of experience advocating for early literacy. In her new position, she will oversee the statewide program’s implementation, including staffing and budget management. "It’s a dream come true to collaborate with DELC and local partners to ensure our youngest readers have access to high-quality books at no cost," McNichols expressed.
Chrystal, who previously served as a state operations coordinator with Stand for Children, aligns with the program’s goals through her passion for literacy and community building. "I’m excited to carry out Dolly’s mission by inspiring a love of reading among young families," she said.
In May, Governor Tina Kotek announced state funding to support the Imagination Library program, emphasizing the initiative’s importance beyond merely distributing books—it’s about creating joyful memories around reading. With local partners managing enrollments, the program currently serves over 58,000 children and aims to reach all 36 counties in Oregon soon. Families can register to receive monthly books at no cost, reinforcing the notion that every child deserves access to literacy regardless of their economic background.
