Local Eugene-native and former walk-on Bryce Boettcher has emerged as a standout linebacker for the Oregon Ducks football team. Boettcher, who began his career as a walk-on, has transformed into one of the best linebackers in college football. In the 2024 season, he led the Ducks in total tackles with 94 and received high grades for his run defense, coverage, and pass rush abilities from Pro Football Focus.
Boettcher, a multi-sport star who also plays outfield for the Ducks’ baseball team, has shown remarkable talent and versatility on the field. In addition to his standout performance in football, he hit .276 with 12 home runs in the 2024 baseball season and was even drafted by the Houston Astros.
Despite his impressive achievements, Boettcher was not included in Pro Football Focus’ top ten list of returning linebackers for the 2025 season. However, this snub will likely only serve as motivation for Boettcher as he looks to continue his success on the field. As a local talent with a strong work ethic and dedication to his team, Boettcher is poised to anchor another strong defensive unit for the Oregon Ducks in the upcoming season.
