In Women’s 25m pistol shooting, Manu Bhaker of India shot a perfect series of five shots to move up the leaderboard. Haniyeh Rostamiyan of Iran and Thu Vinh Trinh of Vietnam were eliminated in sixth and seventh place. In Women’s handball, the Netherlands and Hungary were evenly matched with the Dutch holding a slender lead. Team GB was optimistic about their medal prospects for the day. In men’s golf, there was a three-way tie at the top with Xander Schauffele (USA), Hideki Matsuyama (JAP), and Tommy Fleetwood (GBR). The day was full of medal events including shooting, rowing, equestrian, cycling, tennis, sailing, table tennis, archery, gymnastics, judo, badminton, athletics, fencing, swimming, and surfing.
In judo, Spain won against the Refugee Olympic Team and will now face Japan. The men’s singles final in tennis could determine the greatest player in history as Novak Djokovic has yet to secure an Olympic gold. The parallel Olympics in the women’s 100m showed the diversity of competitors with each athlete having a unique story to tell. The Games have been grand and captivating so far, but more moments of competition are needed to make them truly memorable. The younger audience needs to be engaged to ensure the continued success of the Olympics.
