Wildfires in California and Nevada have been spreading rapidly due to a recent heat wave and dry conditions, but cooler weather is expected to provide some relief. The Line Fire in San Bernardino National Forest has burned over 25,800 acres and is threatening thousands of structures, with only 5% containment. The fire created its own weather system, producing lightning strikes. Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency and the California National Guard is providing assistance. Several communities are under evacuation orders. In Orange County, the Airport Fire has grown to 5,400 acres, prompting evacuations. The Bridge Fire in Angeles National Forest stands at nearly 3,000 acres with 0% containment. In Nevada, the Davis Fire has burned about 5,000 acres and is 0% contained. Thousands of people are under evacuation notice and power outages have occurred. High temperatures in California are expected to decrease, but strong winds and low humidity will continue to pose a fire threat. Red Flag warnings are in place across Southern California.
