Bangladesh’s Youth Revolt: A Month After Overthrowing the Government, Protests Continue

In an episode of our show, we caught up with our Bangladesh community one month after a youth-led movement ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power. The movement, initially sparked by protests against a government job quota system, quickly escalated into a full-scale revolution resulting in over 1,000 deaths and 400 students losing their eyesight due to police brutality. Host Anelise Borges spoke with Bangladeshi student activist Prapti Taposhi, Columbia University graduate Tasnima Zaman, and “John”, the owner of The Bangladeshi Voice Instagram account, to discuss the current state of the country and what lies ahead for its youth under the interim government.

The guests shared their insights on the ongoing challenges faced by the youth in Bangladesh, including issues such as unemployment, education, and political instability. They also discussed whether the interim government would be able to fulfill its promises and address the grievances of the people. The conversation highlighted the importance of continued activism and advocacy to ensure that the voices of the youth are heard and their demands are met.

As Bangladesh moves forward in the aftermath of the revolution, it is crucial for the international community to stay engaged and support efforts towards democracy, justice, and human rights in the country. By staying connected with our Bangladesh community, we aim to provide a platform for meaningful discussions and solidarity with those working towards a brighter future for all.
