India triumphs over Bangladesh in Chennai with a massive 280-run victory in first Test | Cricket

Bangladesh succumbed to a 280-run defeat against India in the opening Test match in Chennai as hometown hero Ravichandran Ashwin stole the show with 10 wickets. Ashwin’s stellar performance of six wickets in the second innings led India to victory after he had scored a century in the first innings. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only significant resistance for Bangladesh with 82 runs. With this win, India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

Ashwin’s spin-bowling partner Ravindra Jadeja also contributed to the victory by taking three wickets on the final day. India declared their second innings at 287-4 on day three after centuries from Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant. This victory came as a comeback for Pant, who returned to the team after a serious car crash.

Virat Kohli, also playing his first Test match after the birth of his second child, did not have a significant impact, scoring just 6 and 17. India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, played a crucial role in giving India an early advantage after bundling out Bangladesh for 149 in their first innings.

Bangladesh, coming off a landmark series win in Pakistan, will be looking to bounce back in the second Test match against India in Kanpur. However, the task won’t be easy as they have never beaten India in Tests. India, on the other hand, is aiming to extend their lead at the top of the World Test Championship rankings in the new season.
