Oregon State Beavers Secure Narrow Victory Against Cal State Fullerton
Oregon State University, ranked eighth nationally, faced a surprising challenge in their matchup against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday night, securing a hard-fought 17-10 win that was much closer than anticipated. The Beavers’ offense exploded in the third inning, racking up 12 runs, but the Titans mounted a late comeback that tested OSU’s resolve.
After a dominant inning that saw Easton Talt shine with a two-run homer and a two-run triple, Oregon State initially appeared in control. The Beavers started strong with a 12-0 lead after the third but faced a spirited response from Fullerton, which chipped away at the deficit, narrow to 14-10 after a six-run sixth inning and a three-run homer from Paul Contreras in the seventh.
Despite the Titans’ efforts, Oregon State managed to maintain their lead with contributions from multiple players. Talt notably almost completed the cycle, collecting a single, triple, and a home run, driving in five runs. AJ Singer also played a crucial role with four hits and three RBIs. Carson McIntire marked his first career home run in the ninth, capping the score.
Freshman pitcher Dax Whitney set the tone with four solid innings before OSU’s bullpen took over, ultimately going through five pitchers with Zach Edwards securing his first win of the season. Edwards, alongside Wyatt Queen, delivered critical hitless innings to stymie the Titans’ offense.
The victory marks Oregon State’s fifth straight win and secures the series against Cal State Fullerton (17-17). The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Goodwin Field.
