Volunteers in Gaza killed by Israeli airstrike were members of aid convoy, says agency


Aid agency Anera has stated that the four locals killed in an Israeli airstrike on their convoy in Gaza had volunteered to escort the convoy. The Israel Defense Forces claimed they were armed assailants who had hijacked the convoy. Meanwhile, in the West Bank, Israeli forces killed two attackers in separate incidents, one who infiltrated a settlement and another who attacked soldiers after his car exploded.

The World Health Organization has delivered 1.2 million doses of polio vaccine in Gaza, with 400,000 more to follow after the first case of polio in 25 years was reported. Despite a three-day pause in fighting agreed upon by Israel and Hamas to allow for polio vaccinations, the UK has expressed concern over Israel’s military operations in the West Bank. Israeli border police also killed a senior Hamas commander and two militants.

The Israeli military stated it had completed a month-long operation in southern and central Gaza, killing over 250 Palestinian fighters. The head of the UN peacekeeping force warned of the significant risk of a broader regional war in the Middle East. Additionally, Israel informed the US that shots were fired at a World Food Programme vehicle in Gaza due to a communication error.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris called for a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza and expressed concern over the loss of innocent Palestinian lives. The EU’s foreign policy chief is considering sanctions on Israeli ministers for inciting hate messages against Palestinians.
