Body of Missing Oregon Toddler Discovered in River Following 11-Day Search

Press Release: Body of Missing Two-Year-Old Found in Oregon

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the tragic recovery of two-year-old Dane Paulsen, who went missing earlier this month. His remains were found in the Siletz River on Tuesday, approximately three miles from his family’s home, following an extensive search effort. Dane was last seen playing in his yard on March 1 at around 4:25 p.m.

Sheriff Adam Shanks expressed condolences for the bereaved family, stating, "Our thoughts are with the family, who are facing an unbearable sorrow." He also emphasized gratitude for the dedication shown by search teams and the community during this difficult time, despite the unfortunate outcome.

Following Dane’s disappearance, multiple agencies, including local law enforcement, the FBI, and volunteer teams, collaborated in the search. Evidence suggested that Dane had been at the river’s edge prior to his vanishing, prompting authorities to focus their search in this area. The water temperature at the time of his disappearance was reported to be between 44 and 46 degrees Fahrenheit.

Diver Juan Heredia from the Angels Recovery Dive Team played a crucial role in locating Dane’s body. He voluntarily traveled from Stockton, California, to assist after hearing about the case. His commitment to helping the grieving family was evident when he expressed his desire to provide them with closure.

As the investigation continues, the sheriff’s office is coordinating with the county medical examiner and has enlisted the assistance of a county crime team and the FBI. Currently, there is no evidence indicating foul play in the boy’s disappearance.

In a show of solidarity, a GoFundMe page for Dane’s family has raised over $21,000 to support them during this challenging time.
